Antidiabetic

Generic Glucophage (METFORMIN) is used to treat a type of diabetes mellitus (sugar diabetes) called type 2 diabetes. With this type of diabetes, insulin produced by the pancreas is not able to get sugar into the cells of the body where it can work properly.

Actos (PIOGLITAZONE) is used with a diet and exercise program and sometimes with other medications, to treat type 2 diabetes (condition in which the body does not use insulin normally and therefore cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood). Pioglitazone is in a class of medications called thiazolidinediones. It works by increasing the body's sensitivity to insulin, a natural substance that helps control blood sugar levels. Pioglitazone is not used to treat type 1 diabetes (condition in which the body does not produce insulin and, therefore, cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood) or diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious condition that may develop if high blood sugar is not treated).

Glyburide is used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes.

Generic Glucotrol is an anti-diabetic drug (sulfonylurea-type) used along with a proper diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar. It is used in patients with type 2 diabetes (non-insulin-dependent diabetes). It works by stimulating the release of your body's natural insulin. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent heart disease, strokes, kidney disease, blindness, and circulation problems, as well as sexual function problems (impotence).

Amaryl (Glimepiride) is used for treating type 2 diabetes in patients who cannot control blood sugar levels by diet and exercise alone. It is used along with diet and exercise. It may be used alone or with other antidiabetic medicines.

Janumet is a combination medicine used in the treatment of diabetes.

Actoplus Met is a combination of two oral diabetes medicines that help control blood sugar levels. Actoplus Met is for people with type 2 diabetes who do not use daily insulin injections. This medication is not for treating type 1 diabetes. Actoplus Met may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Exermet GM is an antidiabetic medicine containing glimepiride and metformin.

Januvia is an anti-diabetic medicine that works differently from other medicines to lower blood sugar in 2 ways. Avandia is used in the treatment of Type 2 diabetes (non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus).
