Generic AIDS

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has tentatively approved a package of three antiretroviral drugs to be used together in the initial treatment of HIV/AIDS in adults.

The regimen, manufactured by Auro-bindo Pharma of India, consists of a lamivudine + zidovudine tablet fixed-dose combination (Combivir canadian, GlaxoSmithKline) and efavirenz medication (Sustiva tablet, Bristol-Myers Squibb). These drugs help keep the AIDS virus from reproducing during its life cycle.

The product will be available for purchase under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
