New Statin: Livalo For Lipid Disorders

StatinThe FDA has approved the 4-mg maximum dose of pitavastatin (Livalo, Kowa), which is designed to improve blood cholesterol levels. Like other statins, this agent is indicated when diet and exercise fail to lower cholesterol levels.

Pitavastatin drug was approved on the basis of five clinical trials comparing its efficacy and safety with that of three other statins. Adverse reactions included constipation and muscle, back, and joint pain.
