A decorated former New Haven police detective was sentenced to 15 months in prison today after he was caught manipulating evidence and stealing money from drug dealers during an undercover federal sting operation.
Justen Kasperzyk, 35, also was fined $2,500. He admitted the crimes, but said he stole money to feed a gambling addiction and because, over the course of his 12 year police career, he had become frustrated by a belief that violent drug dealers were routinely beating charges lodged against them by police.
