Hells Angel Gets Life For Killing Of Informant

A Montreal Hells Angel was sentenced to life in prison Monday for blowing up a federal drug informant nearly 15 years ago near the Canadian border.

Richard Vallee, 50, was found guilty in September of murdering the witness, who was set to testify against him in a federal case involving the export of cocaine from the United States to Canada.

Lee Carter Jr.'s Porsche exploded on July 28, 1993, outside a bowling alley where he worked as a bartender in the northern New York community of Rouses Point. Read more

Arrests Bring Solace to Montana Town

Glen's Cafe hasn't had a night shift in nearly seven years, ever since someone walked into a local hair salon and slashed the throats of three women.

The grisly November 2001 killings stumped investigators for years. Some residents say the small western Montana town in the picturesque Bitterroot Valley was never quite the same after the attack.

'We didn't feel it was safe to have those young kids working in here (at night),' said Joanne Moore, 53, a baker at the cafe.

With the arrests last week of two suspects, residents are ready to move on and hope to put the bad memories behind them. Read more

Medical marijuana users more than $500,000 in arrears with Health Canada

- Medical marijuana users are on the hook for more than $500,000 in unpaid bills for government-certified weed, raising questions about the effectiveness of Health Canada's troubled dope program.

Newly disclosed statistics show that Health Canada has sent final notices - and sometimes dispatched a collection agency as well - to 462 registered users since government marijuana first became available in 2003.

"Most of the 462 individuals who have received a letter regarding their accounts in arrears have had their shipment ceased," department spokesman Paul Duchesne said in an e-mail. Read more
